Forbes: Leafs Most Valuable Team

For the third straight year, the Maple Leafs are the NHL?s most valuable team, worth $448M, as reported by the Associated Press on Wednesday. The Maple Leafs increased in value by nine per cent and easily were ahead of the Rangers in Forbes? annual rankings. The Rangers are worth $411M. Third on the list were the Canadiens at $334 million, followed by the Red Wings ($303M) and the Flyers ($275M).

Flyers Rout Thrashers For 3rd Straight

The Flyers embarrassed the Thrashers, 7-0, on Tuesday night in Atlanta for their third-straight victory. Antero Niittymaki had 27 saves en route to a shutout victory while a trio of Flyers had two goals apiece. Joffery Lupul scored on a wrister in the first period to give Philadelphia a 1-0 lead. Mike Knuble and Simon Gagne then each found the back of the net in the second, before the Flyers enjoyed a huge final period. Knuble, Lupul, and Gagne all scored again, with Glen Metropolit joining in on the fun. Atlanta's Kari Lehtonen surrendered all seven goals while stopping 24 of Philly's 31 shots on goal. The Flyers began their win streak with back-to-back wins over the Devils this past weekend.

Rangers Haven't Been This Hot Since 1983

The Rangers are undefeated through the their first four games this month, a mark they haven't reached since the 1983-84 season. New York knocked off Philadelphia, 4-3, on Saturday night to improve to 4-0. That is their best start since they stormed out of the gates with a 5-0 record in October of 1983. The Rangers will host the Devils on Monday as they look to extend their winning streak to kick off the 2008-09 season.

Ottawa Beats Pittsburgh To Split Sweden Series

The Ottawa Senators defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins, 3-1, on Sunday to earn a split of the two-game series the clubs played in Stockholm. Dany Heatley put the Senators on the board with a backhanded power-play goal in the second period, and followed that up with another score, a power-play snap shot at the beginning of the third, to give his team a 2-0 lead. Heatley already has three goals through his first two games. Antoine Vermette added a third goal for Ottawa at the 15:50 mark in the third, before Pittsburgh finally got on the board. Alex Goligoski scored for the Penguins on a power-play with just two seconds left on the clock. Goligoski was assisted by the tandem of Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin on the goal. Both Daniel Alfredsson and Filip Kuba had two assists for the Senators, who attempted four fewer shots than the Penguins in the win.
